Engine Emissions
Emissions norms are getting strict and more regulated with time.
How clean are our cars today? How many cars are produced each year? (http://www.worldometers.info/cars/)
Our health and well being depends on the quality of air we breath. As more and more cars are added to the roads each year, emission regulation standards and its implementation remains a challenge in the developing countries. In developed countries, automobile manufacturers face an issue of meeting those stricter regulations with new engine designs and better after exhaust treatments.
Currently, one area of concern which hasn't got a lot of research input is nano-particles coming from the engine exhaust.
My current area of research is measuring those nano-size ash particles which constitute of different metals. These metals are formed from the additives added primarily to oil which is used for lubrication and cooling in the engine.
